For twelve young riders from Russia, Thailand, Colombia, New Zealand, Australia and Germany, a dream came true on Sunday evening: they were welcomed by Ludger Beerbaum and his team to the fourth Longines World Equestrian Academy (LWEA) in Riesenbeck. Under the guidance of Ludger Beerbaum, President of the LWEA, and the internationally successful showjumper Tadahiro Hayashi from Beerbaum's rider team, the young riders, enthusiastic about their horses, were be introduced to the processes of a professional show stable for a week.
"We have designed our LWEA concept to fine-tune the details of our sport in small groups with participants, who are already competing at horse shows to increase their awareness of essentials such as feeding or hoof care, as well as improving their riding skills and personal fitness." says Ludger Beerbaum. Radiant, the two German riders Julia and Alina could hardly believe their luck. Both of them took part in the raffle of Longines Germany and were invited along with their own horses to the course. Quinn, the only boy in the girl squad, apparently had no problem with being a quota man. Together with his mother, the 14-year-old Australian was honored for the longest journey (29 hours travel time) during the welcome evening.
The program included not only the daily training sessions in the saddle, but also the important fitness and seating training with specialized physiotherapist Imke Schlömer, a visit to the Ludger Beerbaum Stables, a trip to the veterinary clinic Telgte, a guided tour through the state stud Warendorf, demonstrations for the care of the horse. After graduating on Friday and having the final course filmed and commented on by Ludger Beerbaum, the whole group traveled to Valkenswaard for the Longines Global Champions Tour. There, CHIO Aachen and Calgary Grand Prix winner Philipp Weishaupt walked the course of the LGCT Grand Prix with the eager group before everybody settled down to enjoy the top sport at the spectacular venue on the last day of the LWEA Summer Camp 2019.
